The Episcopal Church recently decided to allow marriages for same-sex couples. Since this decision came down so soon after the recent Supreme Court decision, it may seem like the latter was the reason or justification for the former. We need to remember, though, that the church's decisions are based on prayerful consideration of God's word as found in the Bible. Here is a good explanation of same-sex marriage in terms of the Bible, written by Justin Lee, founder and executive director of the Gay Christian Network. One of my friends who is a pastor particularly appreciated this article for Lee's respectful tone, his willingness to take all sides of the matter into account, and for accepting the Bible as authoritative.
